“The Marine Litter which Connects the World and Citizens”　~Can picking up rubbish make a big difference to the world?~

As a result of our conservation efforts around Nakatsu tideland, through beach clean-ups and trash survey on marine debris, we have been able to establish that marine litter has become a serious problem all over the world. A workshop was held to learn about the facts of marine litter and to consider what we can do with the people from NGO who have been working on this problem in Japan and Korea. During this event, we were able to produce "The Nakatsu Declaration Statement". Also, the day after, we cleaned up the Ohshinden Shore with the help of local residents.

The sea does not separate the world, it connects the world.
The road of the sea brought several civilizations and this made our life richer.
However, now, we impose a burden on the sea, it is our wastes which were created by the civilizations.
Our sea should lament when he carries the wastes to shore without saying a word, just like it used to be.
Today, the problem of merine litter reported by citizen groups in Korea and Japan is too huge to solve solely by one country alone. We are sure that this problem cannot be solved without the cooperation of the countries.
The sea does not separate the world, it connects the world.
On the basis of the results of this forum, we now declare that we aim to create the sea without any wastes, we build international solidarity, and we protect nature of the sea which is overflowing with life and brings rich cultures.

대회 선언문
「바다는 세계를 구분하는 것이 아니라 이어주는 것이다.」
바다 길이 가져와 준 여러 문명 덕분에 우리 생활은 풍족해졌다.
그러나 지금 우리들은 그 문명에서 발생한 「쓰레기」처치를 곤란해하고 있으며 바다가 무거운 짐을 부담하고 있다.
우리들의 바다는 옛날부터 묵묵히 그 것들을 바닷가에 옮기면서 슬퍼하고 있지 않았을까?
오늘 한국・일본 양국 시민단체가 보고한 「표착쓰레기」문제는 이제 일국이 해결할 수 있는 문제가 아니고 바다를 넘어 양국의 협력 관계를 구축하지 않으면 해결할 수 없는 문제인 것을 인식하였다.
「바다는 세계를 구분하는 것이 아니라 이어주는 것이다.」
이번 포럼의 성과를 살려 표착 쓰레기가 없는 바다를 목표로 하며 우리가 국경을 넘어 손을 잡고 연대해 나가는 것을, 그리고 생명이 가득하고 풍부한 문화를 옮겨 주는 우리들의 자연의 바다를 지켜갈 것을 여기에 선언한다.
